Six Signs of Having Colon Cancer that Most People Ignore

1 36

The human body is composed of several organs that are essential for survival. Among these is the colon, or better known as the large intestine. This organ plays a major role in the digestive system as this is the final section of the digestive tract.

In an article published by Reader’s Digest, they revealed that having colon problems isone of the most common causes of cancer deaths in America. In fact, an average of 140,000 Americans have been reported to be suffering from this fatal disease. Aside from its most familiar symptom which is the bleeding of the rectum, there are still many other symptoms that can be linked to having a colon cancer.

Watch out for these six (6) colon cancer indications that you should never ignore:

1.Being diagnosed with Anemia – Lack of oxygen-rich blood or red blood cells is considered to be the first sign of colorectal cancer. According to Randall Holcombe MD, the chief of medical officer of oncology at Mount Sinai Health System in New York City, “If a woman is menstruating, anemia is less likely to be followed up with additional tests to see if it could be something else, like colon cancer.” While as for Dr. Patricia Raymond, MD of American College of Gastroenterology. “If a man is anemic, you assume he’s bleeding from somewhere.”

2.Constipation – Chronic difficulty in emptying the bowels, which is usually associated with hardened feces, should not be taken for granted, as it could be a possible indication of having a serious colon problem. “This is something that is suggestive of some sort of obstruction, and if it seems to be there all the time you should get it checked out,” Dr. Holcombe suggested.

3.Shortness of breath – Having colon cancer is among the conditions that can make a person feel tired all the time. It is because the body tends to deposit an excessive amount of blood plasma instead of red blood cells.

4.Bloated stomach – Dr. Holcombe explained that bloating is caused by the blockage of substances that affect a person’s colon.

5.Narrow stools – Severe Diarrhea usually affects the shape of a person’s waste product. Thus, consistent withdrawal of narrow stools could already be a sign of having colon cancer.
