Mighty Corp. Settled P37.9-Billion Tax evasion

Sa Unang pagkakataon sa kasaysayan ng Pilipinas, ang Malaking companya na pagawaan ng sigarilyo, ay nagbayad, settled sa kanilang tax evasion mahigit kumulang sa P40 Bilyong peso.

Ang naturang pera ay ilalaan para sa infrastructural program ng pamahalaan. Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said in a statement.

Sa tagal tagal ng panahon sa kasong ito, ay ngayon lang na settled ang naturang tax evasion case ng Mighty Corporation.

The Department of Justice had dismissed a P37.9-billion tax evasion complaint against the company after it paid in full its tax liabilities of around P40 billion.

Mighty Corporation manufactures cigarettes in the Philippines. Its tobacco processing operations include fermentation of tobaccos for the cigar blended cigarillos. The company is based in Makati, the Philippines with a manufacturing facility in Malolos City, the Philippines. As of September 7, 2017, Mighty Corporation operates as a subsidiary of Japan Tobacco International Philippines Inc.

Mighty Corporation, the Bulacan-based cigarette company owned and operated by Filipino-Chinese businessmen Ceasar and Alex Wongchuking, is considering embarking on an Initial Public Offering. “Going public, that’s one of the options we’re considering but there’s no decision on that yet,” Mighty spokesperson Oscar Barrientos recently said.

Although SEC records show that Mighty was incorporated in December 1985, the company’s website states that it was founded in 1945 as La Campana Fabrica de Tabacos Inc. by Wong Chu King, a Chinese immigrant.
