Public satisfaction with Duterte gov’t stays ‘very good’

PUBLIC satisfaction with the Duterte government remained “very good” in the third quarter of 2018, according to the latest survey of the Social Weather Stations (SWS).

The poll, conducted from September 15 to 23, found 65 percent of adult Filipinos expressed satisfaction with the work of the current administration, while 15 percent were dissatisfied.

The remaining 19 percent could not say whether they were satisfied or dissatisfied with the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.

The government’s latest net satisfaction score was eight points below but stayed “very good” from June’s +58 to September’s +50.

Net satisfaction rating of the administration in Mindanao was down by nine points, prompting a fall by one grade to “very good” +67 in September from “excellent” +76 in June.

The government also suffered a six-point drop in Balance Luzon that also triggered a fall by one grade from June’s “very good” +54 to September’s “good” +48.

In Visayas, it also fell to “good” +42 in September from “very good” +56 in June.

However, the Duterte administration retained a “good” net satisfaction score in Metro Manila despite seven-point decline, from +47 in June to +40 in September.

The government’s net satisfaction fell by two grades in Classes ABC, following a decline by 34 points from “excellent” +81 in June to “good” +47 in September,

It also lower by 13 points and one grade in Class, from June’s “very good” +62 to September’s “good” 49.

Net satisfaction in Class E stayed “very good” although down by five points to +50 in September from +56 in June.

Rural net satisfaction remained “very good” despite 13-points from from June’s +67 to September’s +54.

It also stayed good in urban although down by four points to +45 in September from +49 in June.

By socio-demographics, downgrades in the government’s net satisfaction rating from June to September occurred among age group 55 and above (from “very good” +60 to “good” +47) and among high school graduates (from “very good” +52 to “good” +48).

The administration obtained “very good” scores on building and maintenance of public works (+66), helping the poor (+63), reconstructing war-torn Marawi City (+58), protecting human rights (+54), and fighting terrorism (+53).

It was “good” on fighting crimes (+43), reconciling with communist rebels (+42), reconciling with Muslim rebels (+41), foreign relations (+40), fulfilling commitments in international treaties (+40), defending Philippine sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea (+39), and eradicating graft and corruption (+38).

It received “moderate” rating on ensuring that no family will ever be hungry (+23) and a “neutral” score on fighting inflation (+8).

The SWS faced 1,200 adult respondents for the survey, using sampling error margins of ±3 percentage points for national percentages, and ±6 percentage points each for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
